BEIJING, CHINA. November 18, 2001 – Mondo Gelato is proud to present the grand opening of the first Mondo Gelato in Asia, located in the prestigious Lufthansa Centre. Our mission is to introduce gelato culture to the world especially in China; provide the best tasting gelato made in the traditional artisan way; and to introduce gelato as a branded gourmet product, distinguishing it from the rest of the pre-packaged commercial products.

Mr. Maurizio Grande, Italian-born owner of Mondo Gelato, visited Beijing for the grand opening of the first Mondo Gelato in China. “It is nice to know I can find the same quality of gelato in Beijing as I can in Rome,” he said. “Mondo Gelato Beijing represents the finest Gelato from Italy.”

Mr. Grande first brought the flavor of Italy to Vancouver, Canada in 1998. To succeed in getting the authentic Italian taste, Mr. Grande had to travel to his old homeland of Italy to get the best product for Mondo Gelato. Not all gelato taste the same in Italy, and Mr. Grande knows a truly fine thing when he tastes it. Mondo Gelato has been able to achieve the best balance of taste, texture, creaminess and smoothness. Mondo Gelato wants to share this experience with the world.

Gelato’s history is long and stems back as far as the 16th Century, to the ice fields near Mount Aetna. Mondo Gelato lives up to that tradition, as all gelato is made by hand daily with only the premium ingredients. Mondo Gelato is a healthy creation that is light, smoother and very low in fat, without preservatives or artificial colouring, just “pure essence”.
